Without prior warning, Egyptian singer Shireen Abd El Wahab placed the well-known musician Amir Abed El Majid in a tight spot when she decided to cancel reciting prayers on television during the holy month of Ramadan only ’48 hours’ before the holy month started.
Shireen was supposed to recite prayers with Egyptian singer Ali Al Hajar. Shireen’s decision comes after she discovered the good news that she’s expecting a baby with her husband composer and distributor Muhammad Lutfi. In no time musician Abed El Majid came up with a replacement for Shireen. The young and rising Egyptian singer Mai Farouq who has a beautiful and deep voice became Shireen’s replacement. Everyday before ‘Iftar’ (the breaking of ones fast) Mai Farouq and Ali Al Hajar join together reciting prayers on Egypt’s first channel. According to the London daily Elaph, composer Amir Abed Al Majid knows that Shireen is going though some kind of emotional and crucial period in her life and he excused her for turning down the program. Shireen apologized sincerely and told Abed El Majid that this time is very tough for her with all the morning sickness and the weakness that mothers experience at the beginning of their pregnancies. She also adds that her doctor made her stay in bed during the first three months. Needless to say that the Egyptian singer got married to the Egyptian composer on August 13 and she traveled right after her wedding to Tunisia to host her Carthage concert. |
