-For some reason, Easter always makes me recall Eddie Izzard's attempt to explain why the holiday is associated with chocolate bunnies: Is it because chocolate is the same color as the wood used in the cross? Rent a copy of the comic's concert DVD Dress to Kill for the full, hilarious treatise. -Izzard's haughty koala bear Nigel might be enough to get me to go see The Wild, which otherwise looks like Madagascar with better computer animation. Also in theaters: the much-hyped, very intense-looking thriller Hard Candy; something tells me this isn't about Cadbury eggs and marshmallow Peeps. And now that Bettie Page is a born-again Christian, it's sorta fitting that the biopic about her sexy, pinup past, The Notorious Bettie Page, is being released at Eastertime. -Not sure of the DVD version of Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni's Fun With Dick and Jane contains any ''Easter eggs,'' but it does contain some very funny deleted scenes. Plus, what could be funnier at tax time than watching rich yuppies swindled out of their money and reduced to lives of crime? -Bunny-hopping through Hollywood's D-list for 40 years, Hillary Carlip met everyone who was almost anyone. Read her winning account of her years as a pop culture footnote in the book Queen of the Oddballs. -If you didn't like ABC messing with Easter and Passover tradition by airing a drab new version of The Ten Commandments, rejoice because the network is airing the colorful Charlton Heston original, in all its campy glory, on Saturday at 7 p.m. (Say it along with me, in your best Edward G. Robinson snarl: ''Where's ya Moses nowwwwwww?'') Saturday also brings a British interview/concert special with the continuously self-resurrecting Madonna (BBC America, 10 p.m.), and a new Saturday Night Live episode in which Lindsay Lohan and Pearl Jam also aim for some career resurrection (NBC, 11:30 p.m.). -Bernie Mac, however, may not be coming back to life. Chillingly, he suffers a near-death experience during Friday's season finale of The Bernie Mac Show (pictured; Fox, 8 p.m.), which may also be the series finale. -Meanwhile, The West Wing is down to its final five episodes starting Sunday (NBC, 8 p.m.), as some of your favorite White House staffers from past seasons reunite for Leo's funeral. -Easter Sunday also sees some slightly more apt programming with the debut of A&E's five-part reality drama about four young men deciding whether to enter the priesthood, a series with the snappy title God or the Girl (9 p.m.). |
