Wendy James (born January 21, 1966, somewhere in East Sussex, England (she won't reveal where)). She left home when she was 16 and went off to live in Brighton where she studied drama and English for a year. Then she got disillusioned and left and started singing in a nightclub instead. There she met Nick Christian Sayer, they became lovers and started to write songs together, moved to London and teamed up with some punk friends, Dave Parsons, Tex Axile and Pol Burton, and formed Transvision Vamp. Their first hit, "I Want Your Love" was in 1988.

Wendy became renowned for her comments on:

• Kylie Minogue: "I think the attitudes she's portraying in her songs are really dangerous"),
• Smash Hits magazine: "pollution of the mind",
• the ecology: "Transvision Vamp are responsible human beings who don't see why we should be destroying the planet we live on"),
• animal rights: "animals are far more logical in the way they live their lives than human beings are

In 1993 she released her first solo album, containing songs written for her by Elvis Costello, "Now Ain't The Time For Your Tears". It was not a commercial or critical success, and she was soon dropped by her record company.
