Mike Berry (born Michael Bourne, on September 24, 1942) is a British actor and singer best known for his appearances as Mr Spooner on Are You Being Served?.
Berry was born in Northampton. In the late seventies he played Mr. Peters, the father of the two children in the TV version of the Worzel Gummidge books, along with Jon Pertwee and Una Stubbs. His character Bert Spooner replaced Trevor Bannister's Mr Lucas in the hit comedy series Are You Being Served? in 1981, and stayed until the end of the show's run in 1985. He had a couple of hit songs in the 1960s (Notably Tribute To Buddy Holly), and is sometimes confused with singer Dave Berry. His first singles were produced by Joe Meek. Unexpectedly, in 1980, he had a big chart success in the UK, with The Sunshine Of Your Smile, a romantic song written before the First World War. |
