Lebanese singer Dominique has criticized Tunisian singer Latifah’s new song “Bi Nos Jaw” (Half the Time), claiming that its sexual lyrics are a negative influence on young children, according to Elaph. Dominique suggested that the press hold lyricist Al Rahbani accountable, and claimed that Latifah’s other song “Ma Ilak Juma’a Msahibni” (We’ve only known each other for a week) is also inappropriate for young audiences. Dominique even went as far as to criticize a song by the legendary singer Fariouze for the sexual nature of its lyrics, asserting it is the way a singer performs a song that makes it sexual. Dominique herself has faced serious criticism over the sexual nature of her songs, leading some to say her critique of other singers is purely defensive. Dominique was harshly criticized for wearing a bikini in one of her video clips, and she asserts that when half Lebanese singer Shakirah wore a bikini in one of her videos it went unnoticed. “Is the problem with the bikini or with who wears the bikini?” questioned Dominique. © 2007 Al Bawaba |
