The sexy Latin American songstress delivers this provocatively-titled collection of indignant songs in her distinctive husky voice.
It's certainly an antidote to lovey-dovey schmaltz, although several of the choir-backed tracks do touch on 'power ballads' and Shakira's impassioned vocals err on the side of warbling more often that you might like.
Still, opening with How Do You Do, a full-bodied number with choral effects and electronica samples, this record keeps the tempo up right until you finish your bottle of Chardonnay.
Animal City is a punchy, catchy number, effectively mixing an 80s electro-pop style with Spanish fiesta sounds. Dreams For Plans sounds a lot like Shakira's former hit Underneath Your Clothes, but that's no bad thing. And Something is a sensitive, whispering muse that proves she can do soft as well as loud.
With latest single Don't Bother leading the way, this is a kind of Jagged Little Pill for the 21st Century, and is certainly one for the girls - especially those less-than-well disposed towards their menfolk at the moment. Although a naked Shakira on the record cover might just persuade some chaps to pick it up...
