BEIRUT, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The European Union granted 38 million U.S. dollars in humanitarian aid to Lebanon to help victims in the Israel-Hezbollah conflict return home and "rebuild their lives", Lebanese television channel New TV reported on Saturday. "The EU is ready to accompany the Lebanese while returning to their hometowns and help them resolve their daily life problems," Patrick Laurent, head of the EU delegation in Lebanon, told reporters at a news conference on Friday. The money will be used to provide violence-stricken families with clean drinking water, food and household goods, financial assistance and health care, the report said. In addition, EU's Humanitarian Aid Department would also work on ensuring shelters, repairing "slightly-damaged" homes, rehabilitating hospitals and schools and clearing up mines, the report added. Lebanon was devastated during the month-long Israel-Hezbollah fighting that caused more than 3.5 billion dollars of damage. Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora had announced that an international donor conference for Lebanese reconstruction would be held in January 2007.
