TV and radio presenter Jonathan Ross has renewed his contract with the BBC. Ross - who presents his own BBC One Friday night chat show, as well as Film 2006, and a Saturday morning Radio 2 show - will stay at the BBC until 2010. The 45-year-old broadcaster's current BBC contract had been due to expire next year. Earlier this year, Channel 4's director of television, Kevin Lygo, said the station was in negotiations to poach Ross from the corporation. 'Uniquely talented' A BBC spokeswoman said the new deal covers both his TV and radio work. She declined to comment on the presenter's salary. As well as Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Film 2006, his Radio 2 show, it includes his forthcoming series Japanarama, which looks at Japanese culture. Peter Fincham, controller of BBC One, said: "Jonathan is a uniquely talented broadcaster and is at the very top of his game. "He's one of the defining faces of BBC One and his Friday night chat show is the best in the business. We're all delighted he's staying." Ross, who recently won a Bafta award, said: "I'm delighted to be staying with the BBC if only because it is the only studio I can drive to without getting lost. "It is the best channel in the country, and I'm proud they want me back." BBC NEWS. |
