The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Syria has played a role in thwarting alleged attempts by Hizbulah to kidnap Israeli Army officers and President Bashar Assad pledged to halt the flow of weapons to Hizbullah.
Assad, according to the report that was published on Sunday, also pledged to prevent any possible attack by Hizbullah on Israel and to maintain neutrality if Israel attacked Iran.
The report said an unidentified Syrian security source relayed in recent weeks to an European capital "detailed information" about plans by Hizbullah to Kidnap Israeli officers active in trading with weapons in foreign countries.
Israel has reported foiling 10 kidnap attacks planned by Hizbullah in Europe, Africa and north America" to avenge the assassination in Damascus of its commander Imad Mughniyeh, which Hizbullah has blamed on Israel. |
