Clashes broke out in the southern refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh on Monday between the mainstream faction Fatah and Jund al-Sham militants. At least one person was killed.
Two Fatah members opened fire at Jund al-Sham militant Issam Biqai, killing him instantly.
Jund al-Sham militants took to the streets armed with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers, opening up at Fatah offices.
Fighters of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah responded in kind, and attacked Jund al-Sham's strongholds in the densely-populated camp.
Efforts were underway by mediators to contain the clash, witnesses reported. |
