Army units chased fifth column saboteurs who provoke clashes between the districts of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Baal Mohsen in the northern city of Tripoli overnight, targeting them by machine gunfire.

Troops manning 12.7-mm machine guns mounted on armored personnel carriers opened up at such saboteurs who had hurled two hand grenades at the Bab al-Tabbaneh pro-majority district, which is just off the confrontation line with pro-Hizbullah Baal Mohsen.

Army patrols also carried out house raids in the two districts amidst reports the troops were chasing suspects in last Wednesday's Tripoli bombing.

The Army Command did not issue any communiqué related to the overnight developments in Tripoli and no casualties were reported.
