Mustaqbal Movement leader Saad Hariri said on Monday the proposed conference of National Dialogue would be held in line with "the mechanism set by the Doha Accord."
"Any attempt to overstep this mechanism aims at diverting the dialogue and hampering efforts by President Michel Suleiman to sponsor the conference," Hariri added in a statement released by his press office.
He was apparently rejecting attempts by Hizbullah to flood the proposed conference by listing a variety of topics on its agenda and adding self-proclaimed "independent" figures to the conferees.
Premier Fouad Saniora, who enjoys the backing of Hariri and other leaders of the March 14 majority, had said the proposed dialogue conference has only one item on its agenda that is the topic of working out a defense strategy.
Hariri also declared "full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates regarding the new Iranian penetration of the Abu Moussa island."
He also denounced the "Iranian violation of the 1971 memorandum of understanding" between the UAE and Iran.
"We look forward to a major and responsible pan-Arab stand that would reactivate Arab solidarity," Hariri said.
He called for "safeguarding the Arab identity and … confronting campaigns of submission to some regional and international powers." |
