The UEFA EURO 2008™ Fan Zone in Berne was taken over by Dutch supporters on Monday night as they celebrated their opening Group C win against Italy.

Dutch delight
With temperatures hovering around 20C, the scene was set for a real football party and a suitably passionate crowd of Dutch and Italian supporters gathered to watch the game together.

"Of course the disappointment is enormous," said one Azzurri fan who came to Berne from Messina.

"But the Dutch and their fans deserved the victory. Maybe we were a bit too overconfident."

On the other hand, a thrilled father, who had brought his family from his home near Rotterdam to watch the game, said: "Once again, the Netherlands lived up to their attacking potential at a big tournament.

It is fantastic. I am so happy."
