Austria's dungeon dad Josef Fritzl is a broken man who cries himself to sleep at night, prison sources told the UK Mirror yesterday. Fritzl reportedly told his legal team he wants to see his family to explain things and find out how they are. Elisabeth Fritzl - imprisoned by her father for 24 years while he repeatedly raped her, fathering seven children - has already said she never wants to see his face again. The Mirror also said she is still too ill to be interviewed by police. Meanwhile, the family's lawyer dismissed claims that Elisabeth was due to give an exclusive TV interview in Austria, the paper said. "It would seem strange to be interviewed by the media when even the police have not been able to speak to her yet,' said Christoph Herbst. "At this stage, there are no such plans whatsoever." Elisabeth and five of her children are currently being shielded from the media glare and receiving psychiatric counseling in a clinic in the town of Amstetten. According to police, Fritzl, 42, was kept as a sex slave for 24 years by her father. She and her six surviving children were freed last month from a cramped, windowless dungeon in the basement of the father's house. It was the hospitalization of the eldest child, 19-year-old Kerstin, last month that brought the case to light. According to reports, the family had started to make discreet sorties outside their ward to get fresh air, sometimes disguised so that they would not be recognized. The youngest, aged five, who was never let out of the dungeon since his birth, had gone into town and fulfilled his dream of eating at a Happy Meal at McDonald's.
