The hosting Qadsia had to leave the Asia Champions Cup early yesterday after being held off by Riyadi in the quarterfinal (Riyadi 80:91). The host had somehow unconvincing performance during the preliminary round and finished their pool just at the 4th spot. Thus they had to face the top-seeded Riyadi in the opening round of the knockout stage. Qadsia threw everything they had to keep competitive in this one.
Riyadi, which had qualified to the semi-finals of the 19th Asian basketball cup that is being held in Kuwait from the 8th to the 19th of May, will play next Sunday against the Iranian team Saba, and will also play against the Emirates team WASL in Qatar. It should have been an easy game, but it wasn’t. The man of Abou Chakra were only 3 points (22-19) ahead in the 1st 10 minutes. Despite the recurrent lass of balls and the numerous mistakes of the Yellow team who had a hard time facing the Kuwaiti’s defense, they ended the 1st round 4 points ahead(42-38). However, in the third quarter, the Lebanese team awoke. And marvelously achieved a difference of 18 points (58-40). The locals however made a comeback with 12 units (66-54) by the end of the quarter. The last quarter was identical to its predecessor; Riyadi dominated the game, but by the end of the game the result was (86-70) largely affected by the last 30 seconds of the game. In other quarters in the final, the Rayan won against the Bahraini team Muhariq 95-78, Wasl won against the Jordanian team Zain ( 84-75). Finally, Saba won against Almati (88-78). iloubnan.info |
