The ruling March 14 coalition and the Kharroub branch of Jamaa al-Islamiya attacked Hizbullah, saying the incident that took place in Saadiyat last week was "evidence of Hizbullah's military expansion policy."
"What Hizbullah is doing … is set up armed barracks inside residential apartment buildings along the coast of Iqlim (Kharroub) and its entrances for dubious goals – one of which could be to control the international highway that links Beirut with Sidon and the rest of the south," said a statement issued after a meeting between the two groups at the house of MP Mohammed Hajjar. The statement was referring to clashes that raged in the Saadiyat area south of Beirut last Sunday between Hizbullah gunmen and Sunni residents of the Kharroub Province. The statement stressed that the Kharroub Province "has been and remains a model of coexistence," and accused Hizbullah that it does not believe in coexistence. |
