Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said Friday he has "an impression" that Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Mustaqbal Movement leader Saad Hariri would meet and that Lebanon would elect a president by May 13.
Moussa made the remark to reporters following a joint meeting with MP Michel Murr and Defense Minister Elias Murr. Moussa said there is a "general international, regional, Arab and Lebanese feeling … that a president should be voted in. An understanding could be achieved through dialogue." Moussa said he was undergoing "primary consultations to promote dialogue. These primary consultations are not over." He rejected talk about internationalizing the Lebanon crisis, saying it has been internationalized through U.N. Security Council Resolutions dealing with Lebanese topics. Dialogue, Moussa said, should end up in "a clear step. As long as May 13 is a schedule, let it be the date to elect a president." |
