MP Mustafa Alloush on Wednesday said March 14 MPs were under pressure to elect a president by simple majority on May 13 if the Hizbullah-led opposition failed to facilitate the vote.
Alloush, however, added "we are giving more than enough time" for electing consensus candidate Gen. Michel Suleiman by MPs of both the majority and opposition in a session set for May 13. He said the March 14 alliance accepts taking part in dialogue called for by parliament Speaker Nabih Berri "provided there is pre-dialogue agreement that May 13 is the day to elect a president." The Majority also is prepared to negotiate with Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) leader Michel Aoun as opposition representative if Arab league Secretary General Amr Moussa sponsored such talks, Alloush added. "Almost all of Aoun's allies, except for Hizbullah, are trying to desert his ship," Alloush noted. "Hizbullah clinches to Aoun because he is the only ally that Hizbullah has," he added. |
