U.S. Informs Saniora that Warships Sail In International Waters

The head of the U.S. diplomatic mission to Lebanon Michele Sison on Friday informed Premier Fouad Saniora that U.S. warships would sail in international waters of the eastern Mediterranean. Sison told Saniora during the meeting at the premier's request that U.S. warships in the eastern Mediterranean usually carry out routine assignments "to support regional stability. Such warships are in international waters." Sison was summoned to the meeting by Saniora to enquire about a decision to assign the guided-missile destroyer USS Cole to sail off the Lebanese coastline.
