At least 100 Muslims staged a protest Friday outside a mosque in northern Lebanon, urging a boycott of Danish products over the reprinting of cartoons lampooning the Prophet Mohammed. Angry speakers called for the expulsion of the Danish ambassador and chanted "Death to Denmark" while one banner suspended over the crowd read "What is the point of a nation if its Prophet is insulted."

"We have to unite and make a courageous decision in the face of this attack against our Muslim religion to boycott all Danish products", said Shiekh Haitham Abu Eid of the Islamic Workers Front, a member of the Minya Islamic Coalition that organized the event.

"I take part in this sit-in today to express my anger and to ask my government to respond to these attacks by barring Danish products from entering Lebanon", said Jamal Skaff, a 47 year-old local resident.

The caricature was one of several drawings that sparked violent protests that culminated in early 2006 with the torching of Danish diplomatic offices in Damascus and Beirut, and the deaths of dozens of people in Nigeria.

Danish newspapers reprinted the cartoon after police in Denmark foiled an alleged plot to murder the cartoonist, describing the move as a gesture of solidarity with him and a blow in defense of freedom of expression.
Islam forbids any physical representation of the Prophet Mohammed.

Since the reprinting, an Islamic organization has hung banners on shops and along major roads in northern Lebanon saying "Defend your prophet", "Boycott Danish products" and "79 percent of Danes voted for the negative drawings. Be with your prophet 100%."(AFP)
