DOHA • Prominent Mulsim scholar Dr Yusuf Al Qaradawi has urged Muslims across the world to react against Danish media's offensive attitude of publishing blasphemous cartoons by boycotting products from Denmark. Some 17 Danish newspapers had recently published cartoons ridiculing Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him).
During his Friday sermon, Dr Qaradawi appealed to the Muslims to use political means to protest against such outrageous actions by the Danish media. The Islamic World, he said, should not remain silent. He said people's reaction need not necessarily be through demonstrations but could be through massive signature campaigns. Muslims should make use of various media such as art, films and theatre to express their anger. Prominent scholars should address the issue in several languages and introduce Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)to non-Muslims. Qradawi said that boycott of Danish products has been the most useful means. "All of us can do without them," he said. "I do not know what Westerners have for us. I doubt their intentions," he said, adding that Islamic world has been good towards them but they have been against Islam. “We are being confronted with actions that are against Islam even from the Pope," he said. Unfortunately, those who did the caricature do not know anything about the Prophet's(PBUH) life, he said. "They did this only to provoke Muslims around the world." Qaradawi also hailed the statement made by London Bishop who did justice to Muslims and gave respect to Shariah. He also praised the Turkish parliament for the removal of the law which banned the Hejab (headscarf), adding that government in Islamic World is supposed to impose Hejab and if they were not doing that they should leave it to women to choose. Commenting on the peaceful march to the British embassy against the refusal of his visa from UK government, he praised those who participated in it and said “I want to say that not going to UK will not cause any harm. It is a right and principle and we have to defend our rights and principles.” |
