Qandil Accuses Saudi, U.S., Israel and Jumblat of Planning to Kill him and Wahab

Ex-MP Nasser Qandil on Monday accused Saudi Arabia, the United States Druze leader Walid Jumblat and Israel of planning to assassinate him and ex-minister Wiam Wahab. Qandil, the one-term MP who failed to run for elections after withdrawal of Syria's army from Lebanon in 2005, made the allegations in an address at the southern town of Adloun about Hizbullah's slain Imad Mughniyeh and "prospects of the confrontation with Israel and its domestic repercussions." Qandil, in remarks distributed by the state-run National News Agency, spoke of "Saudi Arabia's suspicious role in supporting the American scheme and planning to assassinate me and ex-minister Wiam Wahab." "Our names are on the hit list of the joint Saudi Arabian intelligence agencies and the security apparatus of (Jumblat's) Progressive Socialist Party, who spearheads the American-Zionist scheme," Qandil added. He said Hizbullah's resistance is "mightier than ever and would surprise the world by the military results that it would achieve in case the Israeli enemy launched an aggression on Lebanon." Hizbullah would confront an Israeli aggression by "thousands of Imad Mughniyeh's children," Qandil pledged.
