MP Ghazi Zaaiter of Speaker Nabih Berri's Liberation and Development bloc on Saturday welcomed the "extended hand" of Mustaqbal leader Saad Hariri.
"The convergence and the extended hand of MP Hariri is an opposition demand," Zaaiter said. He said the opposition also welcomes any "political stance … that leads to Lebanese consensus and true partnership." "Some political speeches and irresponsible positions that we heard, unfortunately, heighten tension at a time we seek to ensure implementation and success of the Arab initiative," Zaaiter said. Commenting on statements by some March 14 leaders that the pro-government camp is likely to resort to electing a president by simple majority, Zaaiter said that such an option was both a "political and constitutional heterodoxy." "They know that they cannot do that after all that internal and foreign advice," Zaaiter said. "It's impossible to elect a president this way," he added. |
