They fall flat and don’t hold any style together. Excessive oil makes them sticky and attractive to dust and germs. Dandruff soon follows. Oily hair does it spark off your hair dramas? It’s time to plump up that oily mane! With age this extra activation of sebaceous glands will get better but in some cases it might persist for the rest of your life! Overcome the dilemma and balance the texture by treating the root cause and this is what would be the real care of your hair.
Dos • Cleanse hair as often as possible as they are oily. • Take one tablespoon of lemon juice in a mug of water and pour on your head after the final rinse for conditioning. • Mix together two eggs and 4 tablespoons of either rum or brandy and apply. Wrap a hot towel round the head and wash off once it cools. Go for this mane pampering home-made pack twice a month for extra conditioning. • Dissolve Fuller’s earth in lukewarm water and add a little lime juice to it. Leave for half an hour and wash off. This will soak up the grease and balance the texture. • For optimum bounce and shine apply henna once a week. It will not only balance the texture but will also condition your hair. • Do remember to brush oily mane before shampoo in order to remove the dirt and loosen dead cells. It will activate the glands too so the lubricated oil could be washed off. • Boil 4 heaped tablespoons of thyme in two cups of water for 10 minutes. Strain and cool. Pour over damp, shampooed hair, making sure the liquid covers the scalp. Massage in gently. Do not rinse. Thyme is said to have mild antiseptic properties and thus is effective in helping to alleviate dandruff. • Drink 10-12 glasses of water and have a glass of lemon juice every morning. Don’ts • Avoid strong shampoos as they harshly strip off natural oil from the scalp. • No creamy or oily cosmetics like conditioners, serum, gel etc. They weigh hair down. • No over-brushing, as it activates sebaceous glands elevating the production of oil. • Skip oil application during scalp massage. Instead mix rose water and mineral water for easy movement of your fingers. • Avoid fried and greasy food, alcohol tea and coffee.
