Druze Leader Walid Jumblat on Saturday termed Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir "father of the independence and reconciliation in Lebanon."
Jumblat's stand was announced by MP Wael Abu Faour who headed a delegation assigned by the Druze leader to relay his greetings to Sfeir on Saint Maroun's day. Abu Faour said the campaign targeting Sfeir is part of an effort aimed at stability and independence and targets state institutes, topped by the presidency, the army and the government. He warned that attempts by the "Syrian Regime to torpedo the Arab initiative … would lead the parliamentary majority, Arab legitimacy and the international community to take decisive action within the framework of nominating Gen. Michel Suleiman for president." He did not elaborate on the remark. |
