The Kuwaiti satellite television channel Al Rai has organized a press conference in honor of Egyptian belly-dancer/actor Fifi Abdo for her upcoming television drama "Souq Al Khudar" (The Vegetable Market), to be exclusively aired on Al Rai during the holy month of Ramadan.
The channel's representative revealed that the success of Fifi in her previous dramas "Al Sit Aseelah" and "Al Hakika Wal Sarab," aired on Al Rai, led to her agreement with the network. Surprisingly, the dramas received more attention in Kuwait than back home in Egypt.
Fifi plays the role of a woman named Sabah, struggling to make her way in a male dominated society. She stated that she is very excited about her role.
Director Mohammad Al Naqli said that filming will begin at the end of May, and the budget has already reached 8 million Egyptian pounds.
On a different note, after years of financial disputes, Fifi and singer Midhat Saleh have finally reconciled.
Midhat paid Fifi back one and a half million Egyptian pounds that he borrowed from her several years ago.
A Cairo court ruled in favor of Fifi who claimed that Midhat wrote her a bad check for half a million Egyptian pounds. Fifi filed the complaint against Midhat in June 2002 after he refused to refund the money she had loaned him.
