An Egyptian court has sentenced actor Hussein Fahmi to six months in prison, and a fine of 500 Egyptian pounds for swearing at two police officers.
The two officers stopped Hussein's vehicle on a Cairo street. When the officers tried to question Hussein, he began swearing at them.
Hussein paid the fine and has appealed the verdict, hoping to avoid serving the jail sentence.
Hussein's latest television drama, “Muwatin Bi Rutbit Wazeer” (A Citizen with the Rank of a Minister), was written by Yasr Al Siawi and directed by Adel Al Asser.
Hussein plays a duel role in the drama of twin brothers who are complete opposites - one honest and the other corrupt.
Circumstances lead the honest twin to become a politician. The film depicts his struggle, trying to preserve his innate character while building his political career. The corrupt twin, an advertising agent and womanizer, manages to cause many problems for his honest brother.
On another note, Hussein has turned down an offer for one million Egyptian pounds to star in a new commercial for a tobacco company. The actor explained that he refuses to take part in such commercials, stressing that he would never encourage smoking, or promote such a lethal habit.
