Prominent Pakistani opposition leader Imran Khan was arrested in Lahore while demonstrating against emergency rule on Tuesday.
It was the first time Khan, a former international cricketer, had appeared in public since Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf declared emergency rule on November 3. Khan was placed under house arrest, but managed to escape and was in hiding until his detention at a student rally. From hiding, Khan was outspoken against the emergency rule and called on students to rise up and save the judiciary and peoples’ fundamental rights. |
