Carol upsets Egyptian journalists and critics |

Three years ago Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram faced negative criticism after receiving an award at the Egyptian Opera House, according to the London daily Elaph. Critics said Nancy should not have been granted this privilege.
In the coming days Lebanese singer Carol Samaha may face the same criticism when she performs on stage at the Egyptian Opera House as part of the ‘Arab Music Festival on November 3rd.
Select critics welcome the young Lebanese singer, claiming that her songs are filled with emotion. Others have criticized Samaha for having a weak voice, claiming that she is not worthy of standing up on the famous Opera House stage.
Many critics see Samaha as too provocative, comparing her to singers like Rubi, Marwa, Dana and Nana that have been banned from singing in different parts of the Arab world.
Although, her performance in more than one Al Rahbani Brother’s theatrical production was outstanding, especially at the Egyptian Opera House.
President of the ‘Arab Music Festival Dr. Ratiba Al Hifni has welcomed Samaha, stating that she considers her to be one of the most important Arab female singers. Al Hifni also said that she has chosen Samaha for her latest album, stating that “Samaha holds a rare charisma whether in her singing style or in her performance and acting style.”
Al Hifni said that she holds herself responsible for choosing Samaha and that none of the singers that she has selected previously were a failure.
Samaha was a great success in the celebration for the Muslim holiday ‘Eid Al Fiter’ aired on Egyptian television. The celebration took place at the Jazira Club in Cairo, drawing over 7,000 fans. Egyptian singer Ehab Tawfiq joined her. |
